New Student
- Currently be enrolled in 6th grade.
- Have an A- or better OR 3’s or 4’s in mathematics class.
- Be in good standing in all courses.
- Fill out the application
- Write an essay
- Submit your 1st semester grades
- Receive a positive math teacher evaluation (the system e-mails the student’s math teacher automatically after the application is submitted).
*Note: Students currently enrolled in 7th or 8th grade who did not attend UT PREP last year may apply as a “New Student.” These spaces are extremely limited.
**The application essay should be between 300-400 words, answering the following questions:
- What interests you most about science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM)?
- Why do you want to attend UT PREP, and what do you hope to gain from the experience?
- Tell us about a project, experiment, or challenge you have taken on that you’re proud of. What motivated you to do it, and what did you learn?
We recommend taking your time to write a quality essay before submitting the application.
Returning student
- Successfully completed UT PREP in 2025.
- Be in good academic standing for the current school year.
Resources
Student Attendance Policy
Students must be on time for daily roll calls by 9:00 am each morning and must attend each class and remain in attendance for the entire class period.
- Students are allowed up to 4 absences for the duration of PREP.
- Missing a full day on Monday – Thursday counts as 1 absence
- Missing a partial day on Monday – Thursday counts as ½ absence
- Missing a full day on Friday counts as ½ absence.
- A total of three late days or early releases constitutes one absence.
If a student incurs more than 4 absences, they risk being dismissed from the program.
