What does my child need to bring every day?
Completed homework, a pencil, a backpack to carry materials, and lunch.
Can my child miss days of UT PREP to go to other camps (church camps, sports camps, etc.) or family vacations?
You can use the allotted four absences at your discretion, but please note that UT PREP’s intensive curriculum moves quickly, and missing successive days will increase the difficulty of catching up on the material. See our attendance policy on the UT PREP main page for more information.
What if my child has been absent for four days and then gets sick?
It is best to save the absences for family emergencies and sicknesses. See our attendance policy on the UT PREP main page for more information. These absences will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
What is a “Zero Tolerance” policy?
A strict policy on behavior and cooperation is maintained. This means your child will be dismissed from the program for any of the following: cheating, bullying, disrespectful behavior, disregard for written or verbal rules, etc. See our Student Parent Handbook on the UT PREP main page for more information.
Will there be homework, and how often?
Coursework is given daily in each class. There is, however, time built into class and a study period during lunch. It is up to each student to take advantage of this time. Any coursework not completed in class will need to be completed at home.
Will I be able to help my student with their homework?
Due to the curriculum of advanced math and science, we cannot guarantee that all parents will be able to help their children. We HIGHLY recommend the student take advantage of the study help time and also take notes in class to take home both for homework help and to study.
What is a “Teacher recommendation”?
Each student applying for UT PREP is required to submit a teacher’s name and e-mail address into their application. This teacher will receive an email with a link to a survey that they will fill out to rate the student regarding academic performance, conduct in class, willingness to participate in class, maturity, punctuality, eagerness to learn new things, etc.
